CONNECTOR WITH CONNECTION ASSEMBLY SLIDER
The invention relates to the field of connectivity, and in particular that of the automotive connector.
The connectors are used to transmit signals or electrical energy between cables, devices (computer, lighting, etc.) or motors. In particular, electrical connectors have electrical contacts in greater or lesser number, or more or less large. In order to ensure good electrical conduction between male and female contacts, the contact force must be sufficiently high. Therefore, and especially if contacts are relatively large, because connected to a power source, for example, the insertion force of the male contact in the female contact can become relatively important.
To limit, and if possible avoid, the risk of musculoskeletal disorders for operators responsible for mounting and connecting connectors, some connectors are equipped with a connection assistance device, or assistance to coupling, a connector with a counter-connector. Such a connection assistance device may comprise a sliding drawer, or slide, and a rotary lever for example. In this case, and in known manner, a gear system, with teeth on a portion of the lever, rotatable when the lever is actuated, and rack on the slide, allows to move the slide in translation. During this translation, a ramping device on the slider and a pin on the counter-connector makes it possible to drive the counter-connector to couple it to the connector.
In addition, the connector may be provided with a cable guide cover to guide and hold the cables electrically connected to the contacts mounted in the connector. In this case, the lever can be rotatably mounted on this cable guide cover. But, it happens that the teeth of the lever deviate too much from the rack of the slider, which can cause blockages or malfunction of the entire device for connection assistance. It is also possible for the cable cover to come off the case.
A solution has been proposed in document US9048579 B2 in which the cable guide cover and the housing are held together by a system of grooves and ribs arranged longitudinally on either side of the portion of the housing at which the lever cooperates. with the slider. If this solution can possibly strengthen the maintenance of the cable guide cover on the housing, it does not necessarily completely solve the problem of the lack of interaction between the teeth of the lever and the rack of the slide. Blocking the connection assistance device can still intervene. In addition, this solution requires placing this portion relatively centrally on the housing and therefore limiting, for a given size of the connector and its lever, the length of the lever potentially usable and, therefore, increases the effort to exert on the lever to couple the connector to the counter-connector.
An object of the invention is to at least partially overcome the problems mentioned above. To this end, there is provided a connector comprising a housing, a connection assistance lever, a connection assistance slider, and a cable guide cover. The lever is rotatably mounted on the cable cover, around an axis of rotation. The rotation of the lever is then essentially between a pre-coupling position, in which a counter-connector can be coupled to the connector, and a locking position, in which the connector and the counter-connector are locked together. The slide is movably mounted on the housing. It is driven by the lever in translation in a direction substantially perpendicular to the axis of rotation of the lever. This translation is effected essentially between an initial position, corresponding to the pre-coupling position of the lever, and a final position, corresponding to the locking position of the lever. During its translation, the slide cooperates with the counter-connector to couple the counter connector to the connector.
In addition, the slide comprises means for retaining the cable guide cover, which move with the slide, and engage with the cable cover, during the rotation of the lever.
Thus, the chain of dimensions and tolerances between the teeth of the lever and the rack of the slider is reduced since, according to the invention, there is a direct interaction between the cable guide cover and the slider in its final position, without passing through the housing. This reduces the risk of a lack of interaction between the teeth of the lever and the rack of the slider, and blocking of the coupling assistance device that may result.
This arrangement also makes it possible to make the cable guiding cover indémontable if the lever is in the locked position. Indeed, it is first necessary that the slide releases the cover cable guide (so that the lever is not in the locking position) to disassemble the housing. Thus, it is no longer possible to lose the cover cable guide or to disassemble it inadvertently, during false manipulations.
This connector may furthermore comprise one or the other of the following characteristics considered in isolation or in combination with one or more others: the cable guide cover comprises a front portion and a rear portion, the front portion being provided with an attachment lug disengaged from the slide retaining means when the slide is in the initial position and cooperating with the retaining means of the slide when the slide is in the final position, and the rear portion being provided with means for anchoring the guiding cover; cable on the housing; - The cable guide cover has an opening in the rear portion, for the passage of at least one electrically connected cable to a contact mounted in the housing; when placing the cable guide cover on the housing, the anchoring means are engaged with the housing, lifting the front portion relative to the housing, before bringing the front portion towards the housing and placing the fixing lug in an area of the housing covered by the slide, when the latter is in the final position; the lever comprises driving teeth of the slide, coming into engagement with a rack of the slide when the front portion of the cable guide cover is brought towards the casing and the slide is in the initial position; the driving teeth of the slider interact with the rack of the slider at a portion of the connector situated towards the rear portion, with respect to the fastening tab; - The bracket comprises a ramp cooperating with the slide and pulling the cable cover to the housing, when the slide is in the final position; - The retaining means of the cable guide cover comprise a ridge formed integrally with the slide and engaged in a groove of the cable guide cover, when the slide is in the final position.
According to another aspect, the invention relates to a connection assembly comprising a connector according to one of the preceding claims and a counter-connector, in which - the counter-connector can be coupled to the connector when the lever is in the pre-coupling position - The connector and the counter-connector are locked together in the locking position, - the slide cooperates, during its translation between its initial position and its final position, with the counter-connector for coupling the counter connector to the connector, and contributes in final position, holding the cable cover, on the housing. Other features and advantages of the invention will appear on reading the following detailed description and on the accompanying drawings. In these drawings: FIG. 1 is a diagrammatic perspective view of a connection assembly comprising a connector and a counter-connector, these connectors not yet being coupled; FIG. 2 diagrammatically shows in perspective the connection assembly of FIG. 1, these being coupled; FIGS. 3A and 3B show schematically in perspective, the connector of FIGS. 1 and 2, respectively, with the cable guide cover in a position in which it is engaged with the housing only by its rear portion, and this same connector, in pre-coupling position, with the cable guiding cover engaged with the housing also by its front portion, but with the sliders in their initial position and not yet cooperating with the cable guiding cover; - Figures 4A to 4C show schematically in perspective, the connector of Figures 1, 2, 3A and 3B, with the sliders respectively in the initial position, corresponding to Figure 3B, in an intermediate position and in their final position. - Figure 5 corresponds to a sectional detail of Figure 4C; and - Figure 6 corresponds to a detail of the gear system of the connector shown in the preceding figures.
In the different figures, similar or identical elements bear the same references. The connection assembly 100 shown in FIG. 1 comprises a connector 1 and a counter-connector 2. In this figure, the connector 1 and the counter-connector 2 are positioned with their mating face facing each other. one of the other, but the connector 1 and the counter-connector 2 are not coupled. To be coupled and connected, the connector 1 and the counter-connector 2 must be moved towards each other, in a coupling direction A, vertical in the figures, then the counter-connector 2 must be engaged at least partly in the connector 1, always moving them in this coupling direction A.
The connector 1 comprises in particular a housing 3, a lever 4 for connection assistance, two sliders 5 also contributing to the connection assistance and a cable guiding cover 6. The housing 3, the lever 4 of assistance to the connection the connection, the two sliders 5 and the cable guide cover 6 are molded in a plastic material.
The connector 1 also comprises, although they are not shown, female contacts or clips consisting of a metal conductor. Similarly, the counter-connector 2 comprises male contacts or tabs (not shown in the figures) consisting of a metal conductor.
As can be seen in Figures 1 and 2, the lever 4 is rotatably mounted on the cable guide cover 6, about an axis of rotation R, perpendicular to the coupling direction A. The sliders 5 are mounted in translation, in a longitudinal direction L, both perpendicular to the coupling directions A and rotation R, on the longitudinal sides 7 of the housing 3.
In Figure 1, the lever 4 is in the pre-coupling position, to allow the coupling of the connector 1 with the counter-connector 2, and the sliders 6 are in the initial position.
In Figure 2, the connection assembly 100 is shown with the connector 1 and the counter-connector 2 coupled, that is to say, mechanically attached to one another and electrically connected. Thus coupled to the counter-connector 2, the connector 1 has its lever 4 in the locked position and the sliders 5 are in the final position.
The lever 4 has a general "U" shape with two branches 7 each constituting respectively a lever arm. One end of each of these branches is articulated on one face of the cable guide cover 6, via a hinge portion 8, while the other two ends are connected by a handle 9.
The cable guiding cover 6 is defined with a front portion 11 opposite, relative to the longitudinal direction L, to a rear portion 12 provided with an opening 13 for the passage of cables (not shown in the figures) electrically connected to the mounted contacts. in the housing 3. The cables exiting through the opening 13 can be attached with one or more cable ties on a neck 14. Therefore, a significant traction may possibly be exerted on the rear portion 12 of the cable-cover 6 and which could cause the cable guiding cover 6, particularly at its front portion 11, to separate from the housing 2. It is therefore advantageous to have robust and effective means for holding the cable guide cover 6 on the housing 3, and indirectly the lever 4 in engagement with the sliders 5, as described below in more detail.
The cable guiding cover 6 has fastening lugs 15 made of materials therewith. They extend each respectively, in the coupling direction A, from a rim of the cable guide cover 6, parallel to the longitudinal direction L. They are located at the front portion 11 of the cable guide cover 6. The fixing lugs 15 comprises a groove 16 open towards the outside of the connector 1 and extending longitudinally parallel to the longitudinal direction L, when the cable-guiding cover 6 is fixed to the housing 3.
As shown in FIG. 3A, the cable guiding cover 6 comprises anchoring means 17 located at the rear portion 12 near the opening 13 (in FIG. 3A, the lever 4 is not shown for clarity, but is normally present during this assembly phase of connector 1). These anchoring means 17 are for example in the form of a beam integral with the rest of the cable guide cover 6. This beam is engaged in a groove in the flange 18 extending the rear face 19 of the housing 3 To this end, the front portion 11 of the cable guide cover 6 is raised relative to the housing 3, so as to allow the hinge portions 8 of the lever 4, to fit into a slot on the top of the sliders 5 (see FIG. 3B).
Then, as shown in FIG. 3B, the front portion 11 of the cable guiding cover 6 is lowered on the housing 3. The cable guiding cover 6 is held in this position by means of a hook 20 engaging in a notch 21 made on a tab 22 integral with the housing 3 (see Figures 1 and 2). During this operation, the fixing lugs 15 are each respectively brought into a housing 23 formed in the housing 3 (see FIG. 3A). The fastening lugs 15 are then in an area of the housing 3 covered with the slider 5, when the slider is in its final position (see FIGS. 4B and 4C, for example). In this position, the respective grooves 16 of the fixing lugs 15 are essentially in the extension of a similar groove 24 formed on each of the longitudinal side faces of the housing 3, close to an upper edge thereof. As shown in particular in Figure 4A, another groove 25, parallel to the previous 24, is also provided on each of the longitudinal side faces of the housing 3, near a lower edge thereof.
Each slider 5 is in the form of a plate with means for retaining the cable guide cover 6. For example, these means for retaining the cable guide cover 6 comprise an upper rib 26 parallel to the longitudinal direction L. Each slider 5 may also comprise a lower rib 27 also parallel to the longitudinal direction L. The lower 27 and upper 26 ribs are molded with each slider 5. Each slider 5 is then mounted on a longitudinal side face of the housing 3 with its lower ribs 27 and upper 26, each engaged respectively in a groove 24, 25 formed in a longitudinal side face of the housing 3. The grooves 24 and 25 extending on either side of the housing 23 for the fixing lugs 15, each slide is maintained precisely and robustly over most of their length, on the case 3.
When the lever 4 is tilted from its pre-coupling position to its locked position, each slider 5 is fed by a gear system, from its initial position shown in Fig. 4A to its final position shown in Fig. 4C , passing through an intermediate position shown in Figure 4B.
In the initial position of the sliders 5, the cable guiding cover 6 can be removed from the housing 3 by releasing the hook 20 from the notch 21 and disengaging the beam from the flange 18. On the other hand, in the final position of the sliders 5, they cover the fixing lugs 15 and their upper rib 26 is engaged in the groove 16 of a fastening lug 15.
As shown in greater detail in Figure 5, each bracket 15 has a lower ramp 28 cooperating with a slider 5, when the latter is in the final position. This lower ramp 28 pulls the slider 5 towards the cable guide cover 6. Conversely, each bracket 15 has an upper ramp 29 cooperating with a slider 5, when the latter is in the final position. This ramp 29 pulls the cable cover 6 towards the housing 3, when the slider 5 is in the final position. The lower ramps 26 and upper 29 reinforce the holding of the sliders 5 by the ribs 26, 27 and grooves 24, 25 and guide the sliders 5 more closely, to obtain a more precise position of the sliders 5 with respect to the cable guide cover. 6 and to the teeth 30 of the lever 4. As shown in FIG. 6, the result is gear paths (in dotted lines), respectively on the teeth 30 of the lever 4 and on the rack 31, which merge during the rotation of the lever 4. As the cable guiding cover 6 is firmly and precisely maintained by its rear portion 12 through the anchoring means 17 held in the flange 18 (possibly inserted and wedged one into the other when setting in place with flip-flop movement of the cable guiding cover 6, illustrated by FIGS. 3A and 3B) and that the fixing lugs 15 prevent the front portion 12 of the cable guiding cover 6 from moving away from the sliders 5, the posit Ion teeth 30 on the rack 31 can be precisely defined and maintained.
It is also noted in this figure, that the tilting movement of the cable guide cover 6 by bringing the front portion 11 of the cable guide cover 6 towards the housing 3, while the sliders 5 are in the initial position (as illustrated by the figures 3A and 3B), is advantageous for bringing the teeth 30 into engagement with the rack 31 of each slide 5.
It will also be noted in the figures that the driving teeth 30 of each slider 5 interact with a rack 31 at a portion of the connector situated towards the rear face 19, with respect to the fastening tabs 15 which is located towards the 'before. Therefore, by reducing the clearances at the articulation of the cable guide cover 6, at the level of the anchoring means 17, and by bringing the cable guiding cover 6 and each slider 5 towards each other, towards the the front, thanks to the brackets 15, it is possible to obtain even more precision on the relative position of the teeth 30 with respect to the rack 31.
